Michael Jackson’s children, Prince Michael (age 12), and Paris (age 11), will accept a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award for their deceased father. Sources have confirmed that the Jackson’s youngest child, Blanket (age 7), will not take part.
The King of Pop will also perform posthumously via a 3-D mini-movie of his hit, “Earth Song.” The 3-D movie was created by Michael for the ill-fated “This Is It” tour last June, and has never been seen in its entirety by the public. Along with the movie, Carrie Underwood, Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, and Usher will perform a live version of the song. You can get your Grammy 3-D glasses at Target. The Grammy Awards will be televised this Sunday, January 31.
If great care and attention are paid to Michael’s vision of this moving and important song, then I believe this will finally be the fitting tribute that his memory and contribution so richly deserve, and one we original Jackson fans (that’s a reference to my age) have desired.
Here’s a preview of the 3-D mini movie, as well as the original “Earth Song” video, which is among my all-time cherished Michael Jackson videos.
Long live the King.
